I’m excited that World Wide Access has made its first sale in China. A customer in Shanxi, west of Beijing, purchased a Nooski mouse trap online and will receive it in the next day or so.
The purchase of a single mouse trap might be a small event in itself, but it’s a significant milestone; it represents the opening up of the World Wide Export sales channel into China which enables New Zealand products to reach Chinese customers quickly and at far lower market entry cost than conventional export methods.
To clarify, this event was the sale of a New Zealand product stocked in our warehouse in China, being delivered domestically from that warehouse, purchased through an online marketplace domiciled in China, and paid for locally in Yuan.
This is quite different from a Chinese customer buying from an international website (requiring foreign currency to do so), and quite different from the bulk sale of product to a Chinese distributor. This is an export sales channel that reaches consumers directly.
In this case the website the customer used to make the purchase was Amazon.cn. The image below shows how World Wide Access is offering the Nooski mouse trap for sale in China in partnership with Amazon.
